BusinessWeek - Glide Provides a Universal Set of Applications

Glide Apps More Comprehensive Than Google Apps

Glide OS 2.0 is a package that aims to replace nearly all the software on your computer.

Glide offers a peek at where Web-based tools may be headed.

The Suite covers most things consumers do on their computers. There is a Word Processor, a Photo Editor, a Drawing Program, a Presentation Program, and a Blog-Writing tool along with Email, Calendar, Contact List, Chat, and File-Sharing. And, of course, you can play music and videos, read news feeds from websites, and check the weather. All of this is done within a web browser.

The Word Processor is straightforward and reasonably full-featured. It normally stores documents in Web-page (HTML) format, but also can save them as Word or PDF files.

The Photo Editor is both remarkably full-featured and fast.

The Calendar is solid and syncs with Microsoft's Outlook Calendar.

Glide provides a useful separate program, called Glide Sync, for exchanging data between online storage and a local hard drive.

Summary:

"I don't think any of Google's applications are ready to mount a serious challenge to Microsoft Office...I have been playing with a more comprehensive product Glide 2.0."

"I tried Glide on a broad variety of (devices) and equipment. Glide provides the closest thing I have seen to a set of universal applications." - Stephen H. Wildstrom
