The Glide Effortless Portal 2005 - 2006

The Mercury News - Why Didn't Anyone Think of This Before?

Nov 28, 2005 - Every once in a while, a new technology comes along that make you stop and wonder -- why didn't anyone think of this before?

This is one of those times.

Glide is a new application that lets you manage all media files in a Web browser.

There is no shortage of ways to, say, share your photo albums online, or upload videos. But this is the first time anyone has created a single Web-based repository -- a multimedia scrapbook, if you will -- for sharing every little bit we make, online.

There's no software to load or configure.

We were impressed by its playful, no tutorial-required interface.

You can throw together multimedia bundles -- literally dragging and dropping favorite music, photos or videos --to publish to a Web site or update a blog. Move the cursor over the "container" where you deposited the files, and a colorful bubble will appear to present you with your options -- to publish a blog or discard. Good riddance, FTP sites.

Summary:

"Glide has a novel approach to sharing your digital media. You don't actually distribute copies of your photos or video, you send a link. The photos, videos or music files are streamed, not downloaded. And you maintain control over them at all times. You determine whether someone else can download, upload or modify your files, how long they can access them, and you can even revoke access."
